SHEFFIELD Homes has had more than its fair share of bad press in recent weeks. So it is good to be able to reflect some praise in the organisation's direction. For they have just been ranked as 'very good''concerning the services they deliver to Sheffield's council house tenants.
A survey of tenants has shown that, generally speaking, tenants are more satisfied than ever with the organisation, while a good number of complaints were resolved within a relatively short period of time. That shows that the organisation is clearly
concerned about giving customers what they want and goes to some lengths to make sure they get it.

Two key areas, though, give rise for concern. Sheffield Homes needs to improve its collection of rent arrears (a long-standing problem in Sheffield) and speed up the refurbishment of properties under the Decent Homes programme.

But all this must be put in context of a huge organisation with thousands of properties to manage and improve. It is a daunting task.

Therefore it is encouraging to learn they are getting so much right, particularly when it comes to ensuring customers feel that they are valued.

Good idea to get your teeth into...

A COMPUTER-based Food Map of Sheffield shops, markets, cafes and restaurants will go down well with people who care about helping local producers and traders.

And, as more people become aware about the need to address such issues, it is likely that this number will grow steadily in the months ahead.

The Sheffield Food Network harnesses modern technology which goes a long way towards helping people to make the most of old fashioned values, such as quality food and local traders and producers, and is a good example of putting simple ideas into practice.

The service is available to everyone with a computer and will help reduce the distance you have to travel to find good quality, locally grown food. With an achievement like that, we can't see how it can fail.
