SHEFFIELD United are believed to be working towards a three months loan spell if they can land their former favourite Michael Brown.
The ex-Blades midfielder is understood to be manager Kevin Blackwell's major target for when the loan transfer window re-opens on Tuesday.
There is speculation that Brown, currently at Wigan after previously being with Spurs and Fulham, will return on loan for a spell that would keep him at the Lane until December.
Another possible target is the Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson, capped by England at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels.
Johnson, who plays on the left, had a spell at Leeds when Blackwell was in charge at Elland Road. He also had a successful loan spell at Watford last season.
Sources on Teesside say that Johnson could be one of those who may be available to go out on loan from next week.
David Cotterill is looking to get the nod from Wales manager John Toshack for their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan whilst the man he is vying with for the right win spot at the Lane, Keith Gillespie, starts for Northern Ireland away to Slovakia.
