SHEFFIELD United are believed to be working towards a three months loan spell if they can land their former favourite Michael Brown.
The ex-Blades midfielder is understood to be manager Kevin Blackwell's major target for when the loan transfer window re-opens on Tuesday.

There is speculation that Brown, currently at Wigan after previously being with Spurs and Fulham, will return on loan for a spell that would keep him at the Lane until December.

Another possible target is the Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson, capped by England at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels.

Johnson, who plays on the left, had a spell at Leeds when Blackwell was in charge at Elland Road. He also had a successful loan spell at Watford last season.

Sources on Teesside say that Johnson could be one of those who may be available to go out on loan from next week.

David Cotterill is looking to get the nod from Wales manager John Toshack for their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan whilst the man he is vying with for the right win spot at the Lane, Keith Gillespie, starts for Northern Ireland away to Slovakia.

We are in great need of a classy midfielder thats why Blackwell kept playing Tongue even though he was poor. I think Brown might be past his best now and certainly not worth £30k pw as reported in the national press. A 3 month stint will cost us £90k in wages so at least we can send him back to Wigan if he's not worth the cash. Might be a good move if he produces the goods.

I SINCERELY hope im wrong and its the same Brown who we so fondly remember from a few years back. But i just dont re-call him having a great game from any of his other clubs since. Perhaps a step down a division might do the trick. Just cant see it somehow. We're living on memories!

Lets hope that he can give us a more positive option than Tonge did. I think the solution is in the club already. If we get a left winger then i reckon Blackie will move Quinn inside. For my money i would try Keef there as his best work is often when he drifts into the middle. He is always looking to thread the ball forward or overlap. Let's see eh!

True, I think you need to recheck your maths

30k a week means 120k a month, thats a £360k gamble?

still worth it?? time would only tell!!
