Pundit Don Goodman has urged the English Football League to take swift action over the charges brought against Sheffield Wednesday concerning the sale of Hillsborough.

The EFL said there was "sufficient evidence" to charge the club last month in relation to "how and when" the ground was sold and its early inclusion in the 2018 accounts.

Promotion-chasing Wednesday have denied the allegations, which will be considered by an independent disciplinary commission, and threatened to bring a counter-claim against the governing body for compensation.

But if the Owls are found guilty, they could face a points deduction.

Speaking on the Sky Sports EFL podcast, Goodman said: "We all have to urge the EFL to take as swift action as possible when it comes to deciding which way they are going to go because if there is going to be a points deduction it will hinder Sheffield Wednesday; of that there is no question.

"But at this time of the season with so many points still available it may still not derail them depending on how bigger points deduction it is.

"It is horrible that we are having to talk and think about this."
