Lingard has been widely linked with Sheffield United and is known to be on Wilder’s wanted list but the 53-year-old isn’t the only admirer. As recently as Sunday, Inter Milan were credited with interest in the England midfielder, while Newcastle United have also been mentioned. For a deal to happen, it is also believed a compromise is needed on both sides in terms of his wages, which is rumoured to be £100,000-a-week. What Blades fans can take confidence from however, is the bookmakers placing their club as favourites to win the Lingard race. Danny Rose – 8/1 Rose hasn’t played a competitive game since appearing for Newcastle United in July against Liverpool during his half-season loan on Tyneside. Indeed, the England left-back has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur after he was omitted from their 25-man squad. The exclusion has left the 30-year-old in desperate need of a move that will revive his career, which could happen either this month or in the summer when his contract expires. Spurs will likely command a small fee, should the Blades or any other club for that matter, decide to make a move before the deadline. Rose isn’t a name who has been directly linked with a switch to Bramall Lane – nor is he believed to be on Wilder’s watchlist – but his experience at both club and country certainly counts.
