A TEENAGER born in Sheffield has been found dead on a Greek island after collapsing after a night out drinking with friends.
The 17-year-old, who has not yet been named, died while on holiday with a group of pals in the beach resort of Laganas on the island of Zakynthos.
Police in Greece said he was found collapsed on a pavement outside a club after and was rushed to h
ospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
The youngster, who the Foreign Office said was born in Sheffield, is believed to have choked on his own vomit and suffered a heart attack after drinking too much alcohol.
He is believed to have been sick inside the Cocktails and Dreams nightclub before falling down a set of stairs and striking his head at the bottom.
It is thought he was alone when his body was found slumped on the pavement outside.
A police official said: "We were only able to trace his parents in England through the dialled numbers we found on his mobile phone.
"The local medical coroner's report said the youngster apparently choked and suffered cardiac arrest from the excessive intake of alcohol."
His body is expected to be flown back to Britain at the end of the week for burial.
Thousands of young Britons head for the popular Laganas resort each year, attracted by its lively nightlife and raucous parties.
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm the death of a British national on July 21 on Zakynthos, Greece.
"Next of kin have been informed and we are providing consular assistance."
