MEMBERS of Sheffield's business community are planning to show their true colours and raise more than £3,000 for the Master Cutler's Challenge by staging a 'Blades v Owls' charity football match.
The match is the brainchild of Tom Rumboll, business development director at Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets, who will be donning a Blades shirt when the teams clash under the watchful eye of Sheffield-born Premiership ref, Uriah Rennie.
Legends from Bramall Lane and Hillsborough will 'managed' the two teams and, to complete the 'Sheffield connection,' the match is taking place at the Bright Stadium ground of the world's oldest football club, Sheffield FC.
Blades 'captain' Tom Rumboll said: "I wanted to come up with an idea that would not only raise as much money as possible for charity, but would connect with the Sheffield business community.
"What better way than to compete in a good, old-fashioned Sheffield derby.
"We have had fantastic support from all three Sheffield football clubs, as well as numerous other local businesses. This event is a chance for local business professionals, who are dedicated to supplying and growing our local economy, to show the same commitment to supporting the local community, and we are delighted so many are taking part."
Chris Humphreys from accountancy firm PKF's Sheffield office, will be captaining the Owls team, added: "We're delighted to be able to support the challenge laid down by the Master Cutler to the Sheffield Business Community, and all credit in particular to Tom for putting together such a great way of raising money for the chosen charities."
The teams will be playing for a unique trophy, designed and donated by Rotherham-based mechanical seal manufacturer AESSEAL, where Master Cutler Gordon Bridge has been chief executive for almost 13 years.
The Master Cutler's Challenge was launched earlier this year to raise money for St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield and Rotherham Hospice.
Companies taking part were each given £50 and challenged to use it to raise as much cash as possible for the two hospices.
The match kicks-off at 7.15pm on Thursday September 4. Entrance costs £3 and a turnstile will be in operation on the night. Sheffield FC's Bright Finance Stadium can be found to the rear of the Coach and Horses pub in Dronfield.
