CITY development company Creativesheffield is planning to put Sheffield on the map by sponsoring a new album by Tony Christie, put together by local music stars and featuring other local, creative talents.
The album is called Made in Sheffield and is literally that.
In addition to featuring Tony Christie himself, the album has been produced by Richard Hawley and Colin Elliot, features songs written by Sheffield songwriters including Jarvis Cocker and Alex Turner, and was recorded in the city.
The making of Made in Sheffield at Yellow-Arch Studios has been captured on film by Grammy award winning film-maker Don Letts, from Brassneck TV and the album cover has been designed by local design company Peter & Paul, using photographs by local photographer Shaun Bloodworth.
What's more, the whole project has been granted the right to use the Made in Sheffield mark, which is only awarded to companies that are based in the Sheffield postcode district, make most of their products in that area and are committed to producing high quality products.
The album is due to be launched in the autumn with a mini-tour of the city and may also be featured at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival and on Channel 4.
Creativesheffield director of strategic marketing, Brendan Moffett, said: "People often wonder why Sheffield can't benefit more from its fantastic musical heritage. This sponsorship deal will enable the city to fully leverage this excellent album, tour and film with key target audiences and opinion formers.
"One of Creativesheffield's jobs is to maximise the city's visibility externally and we have chosen to do this by investing in real stories, with genuine content, which say something about the city - not in meaningless advertising slogans and logos."
Tony Christie will be performing at the Octagon on Saturday November 8 in a show that will also be featuring other guests involved in the album.
