An ATM in Sheffield is out of order after vandals poured tile cement into the card slot.

The clogged-up cash machine outside the Sainsbury’s on Machon Bank Road has been rendered useless after it was targeted on November 10. While they were there, the offenders also smeared the damaging paste across all of the buttons on the keypad.

The supermarket is limiting cashback to £20 so customers can still get some cash out from the store. Meanwhile, the cash machine has been closed off, and staff have placed a roll cage in front of the machine.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “We received a third party report at around 3.30pm on Thursday, November 10, of criminal damage at a cash machine outside a supermarket on Machon Bank Road.

“It is reported that persons unknown damaged the keypad to the cashpoint by pouring a substance over it, making the machine inoperable. An investigation is underway.”
